Drawing with yarn or thread (Nitrography) is a very interesting kind of creativity that every craftswoman should try at least once. You do not need to be an artist and have specific knowledge to draw a picture from yarn - even a beginner can handle it. This activity is very exciting for children: it develops creative thinking and fine motor skills of hands. Pictures from a yarn turn out volume, colorful, soft and live. But, of course, their main advantage is that anyone can learn the art of nitrography.

For work you will need the following materials:

  • printed (preferably color) image of the picture;
  • PVA glue;
  • toothpicks or wooden skewers;
  • yarn required colors;
  • thin sheet of foam rubber or foam;
  • scissors.

Start drawing yarn:

1. The image should be large enough to make it easier for you to work. The smaller the items on the image, the harder it is to work with yarn. To begin, secure, smoothing, printed image on a sheet of foam rubber or foam, which should slightly go beyond the image. You can cut it at the end of the work and then insert it into the frame.

2. Start by tracing the contours of the image: Apply a thin strip of PVA glue along the contours and attach the yarn with the help of cuts, forming the outlines of the image.

3. When you are finished tracing all the outlines, proceed to filling the image with other, suitable yarn colors. Take your time: this is not a quick, but very exciting process.

4. When you reach the edge of the pattern, cut the yarn with sharp scissors. Inside the round and elongated patterns is best to draw a spiral.

5. The background should work at the very end. Upon completion, you can make a frame for the image itself to highlight it.

The picture is ready! Let it dry and frame it. Here are some more examples of yarn paintings:
